Ooly Modern Script from 2nd and Charles

I just got back from visiting a friend of mine in Denver, and there was one place I knew I had to visit. 2nd and Charles is a book seller and reseller that I fondly remember from when my husband and I still lived in Delaware. They're commonly found in storefronts that used to be Borders once upon a time. They sell books old and new, video games, consoles, music, movies, and all kinds of pop culture swag.

It's one of my favorite stores, so I always jump at the chance to go. And this time around, I became acquainted with another set of pens from one of my new favorite brands.

Meet the Ooly Modern Script, a three-pack of tapered fountain pens that have quickly become some of my favorites. I paid $12.99 for the last pack in the store, but if you're in search of these pens in Denver in the immediate future, never fear. I've also seen them for sale at Barnes and Noble for a comparable price.

I love the tapered shape. That was what instantly attracted me to them. It's a retro design element you don't find on too many pens anymore. The only other pen with a tapered barrel in my collection at the moment is the Pilot Plumix. Because I don't pay premium for any pens, much less the vintage fountain pens for sale on sites like eBay, I look for new fountain pens with retro and vintage inspired designs. The Ooly is a great mix of new fountain pens with reliable modern writing technology, vintage shape, and affordable cost.

I'm currently using the standard black ink that came in the cartridges for these pens, but I have no qualms about refilling the cartridge with bottled ink via syringe. It'll be a while before I need to think about that because the ink is surprisingly long lasting. I definitely have time to waffle about what color to use, and to possibly even acquire some new samples first.

The only thing to be aware of that confused me at first is the type and location of the lid. These are unthreaded snap-on caps, the edge of which is not the clear section alone. The cap extended onto the cap body to the first seam. The notebook that comes in the package is also small and nothing to write home about. I'll probably use it for poetry and not much else, as the dimensions are ideal for verse and it's a lightweight option to carry in my purse.

Overall, a great value. Would make an excellent every day carry option for the bargain-loving fountain pen enthusiast in your life.
